[Launceston Clarion] Why we are here

All too often people in Launceston think of the council as something different from themselves. It is a real handicap. Then again, sometimes the council confirms their opinion. That is a very big problem.

Local government is a trust, and the Councillor and Aldermen are the trustees. Both the trust and the trustees are created for the benefit of the people. That's the rate payers not the people who make up councils' administration.

There is an election coming up and the rules have changed in Tasmania. It is now all in and all out and by all accounts Launceston is going to get a system flush.

What the city needs is a whole new set of Aldermen ready to take on the city's deeply problematic administration system that keeps on delivering unaffordable rates and deminishing services.

If you are contemplating standing for council, do it if you think you can make a difference. If you know someone who you think could make a difference, encourage them to run.
